Worst…Decorations…Ever

Nothing says “Halloween” like hanging effigies of your political opponents from your rooftop. Just ask Chad Morrisette of West Hollywood, CA:

WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- Chad Morrisette never imagined his Halloween yard decorations would prompt interest from the Secret Service.

But apparently hanging a mannequin of GOP vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin from a noose isn't something to be ignored.

Agents recently visited Morrisette's home to see the display and have been trying to meet him to ensure no violent plots have been concocted, Deputy Special Agent in Charge Wayne Williams said Tuesday.

This type of BS is tasteless, rude and not funny. But it’s their protected free speech, so why not?

Local officials aren't quite as accepting of the display, which also features Palin's running mate John McCain surrounded by fake flames coming out of the bungalow's chimney.

West Hollywood Mayor Jeffrey Prang has urged Morrisette to remove the mannequins, and Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich called for an investigation into whether the effigy constitutes a hate crime because it targeted the candidates based on their political affiliation.

So even if they wanted to, the feds couldn’t have done anything about it. No, what eventually led to the removal of this display was pressure from the locals. But I do find this statement from Prang most interesting:

"Had this stupid act been done to Senator (Barack) Obama, there would appropriately have been a national outcry," he said in a statement.

Oh, he has NO idea! Wanna see what happens to people who do this to Obama? Let’s head on down to Kentucky to find out:

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — A University of Kentucky student and another man were arrested Thursday, accused of hanging a life-sized likeness of Barack Obama from a tree on the campus.

The incident was one of several in recent weeks involving effigies of the presidential candidates or their running mates. No charges have been filed in four other cases that have made national headlines.

UK Interim Police Chief Joe Monroe said the men "expressed remorse for a stunt that had gotten out of hand."

Also a tasteless, rude and not funny piece of BS. This is no way for anybody to be celebrating Halloween. But let’s take a look at the outcomes here, shall we? If one decides to hang Palin and burn McCain as part of their Halloween decoration, the people have to organize and pressure you to take that piece of filth down. Do the same to Obama and you’ll get flippin’ arrested.

What’s the matter with people? Why do we have to mix up politics with Halloween in the first place? I can’t take anybody’s side here, but I certainly don’t think people need to get the feds or the police involved over this crap.

Remember that Christmas decoration from either last year or two years ago that made headlines because they’d chopped up a doll and scattered it’s limbs around for the décor? Didn’t anyone learn from that situation that there are certain do’s and don’ts when it comes to decorating?

Don’t hang public figures as part of a holiday display people, okay? It never works. It’s disgusting and it ruins the spirit of the holiday. I just hope “Hanging Chad” Morisette doesn’t wind up with that new nickname for the rest of his life.

Anyhow, Happy Halloween, people.
