Not again!

COLUMBUS, Ohio - An error with an electronic voting system gave President Bush (news - web sites) 3,893 extra votes in suburban Columbus, elections officials said.

Franklin County's unofficial results had Bush receiving 4,258 votes to Democrat John Kerry (news - web sites)'s 260 votes in a precinct in Gahanna. Records show only 638 voters cast ballots in that precinct.

Bush actually received 365 votes in the precinct, Matthew Damschroder, director of the Franklin County Board of Elections, told The Columbus Dispatch.

State and county election officials did not immediately respond to requests by The Associated Press for more details about the voting system and its vendor, and whether the error, if repeated elsewhere in Ohio, could have affected the outcome.

Let me tell you what I did this past election. I got a nice little sample ballot in the mail, looked through it, spent an evening filling it out and went to check with a neighbor about how we both voted in order to help decide on certain measures I didn’t want to vote for. Then I went to the voting booth next evening with my sample ballot, filled out the real ballot and slipped it into that little machine.

These other machines where people just walk up to the screen and press the button didn’t work last time and don’t appear to be working this time. Now, somewhere down the road of the next four years, I’m going to hear whining about how these machines were all part of a grand conspiracy to elect “Emperor Bush” for a second term.

Anyone ready for ousting these machines already? Yeah, I thought so.

It's good to hear a republican say they want a different ballot system besides those idiot machines.
