In The Can

That’s what they say in the business when your film has been completed. And that’s what I can officially say now: “The Good Sitter” is in the can.

It’s actually been finished for some time now, but Sunday of last week was definitely the kicker. Last Sunday, I held a wrap party with my entire cast and crew and any friends they had. After having a delicious potluck dinner, we all sat down to watch the movie in it’s first premiere.

The group was huge. At LEAST twenty people were there and lots of kids. I knew that my neighbors from next door, who are from Britain, had guests from overseas. I had assumed they might be British as well, but they were from Belgium. And yes, they did have their kids with them, so I guess you could call this an “international” premiere.

And how was the audience reaction? Quite positive. Everyone was blown away by it. As a director, I have to judge the audience’s reaction to each scene and see from their expressions what they are feeling. People laughed at the funny parts, but the kids laughed hysterically at the jokes aimed at them. I’m reminded of a quote from director Don Bluth, where he once said something to the effect of “You know that you’ve done your job when you go to other countries to watch your movies and you see kids from other cultures laugh with them.” I can really say that I felt that last Sunday. In fact, one of the kids from Belgium even requested that I go over to his country and star making movies. Not quite in my plans, but that goes to show just how much he liked it and that makes me quite happy.

Things are not over yet. I’ve got more plans for “The Good Sitter.” I’ve got to get it into festivals, I’ve got to get it sold, and even after last Sunday watching everyone’s reaction, I think I’m gonna make a few more edits here and there. I gotta make a website, I gotta make a soundtrack, I gotta get this thing out there, plain and simple in any marketable way I can. So now that I’ve got you all up to date, I gotta get to work. Wish me luck.
