Money for the Poor

To help fund my future ventures in film and video, I finally got off my lazy botox and set up a Paypal account with my brother's good help. If anyone out there would like to help out a fellow American who's down on his luck, please visit my homepage at Sullivision.Johnography.com and click the Paypal button on the right side of the screen. Thanks, y'all.

The Real Rats

I went onto Craigslist today looking for any job possibilities and I noticed they had a section labeled “Politics.” Thinking that this was a chance to get active in local politics as a job possibility, I clicked on it to find a would-be discussion forum. And after seeing several tasteless and immature postings that compare Republicans to sheep who only watch Fox News, I get this piece of trash:

In restating my views, at least I have previously and successfully argued alongside Emma that 911 is a lie and provided ample evidence of that, yet it always seems the pro-Israeli types are the ones that disingenuously say there is no proof of 911 conpiracy theories when there is ample proof. To me it is so obvious. San Jose West, one of the most ardent Israeli supporters here on this board, is a typical example of this type and this is no conicidence. I am pretty sure he knows the truth of 911 almost as certain as I know he is Jewish. And if 911 is a lie there is a clear conspiracy of many prominent Jews in our government and the Pentagon being involved. Very clearly as the very architects of PNAC and the main neocon players in our government are Jewish, controlling the pupper Bush. Many Americans know this and that is why anti-semitism is increasing and that is why the attack on Elie Weisel was probably only "virtual" or staged, ie, to give more credence to the lie that we need even more hate crime laws to stifle free speech, especially when it involves anything to do with Israel or the Holocaust that Jews don't like or want to hear. No one is advocating for Nazi Germany or concentration camps from mainstream critics of Israel, only essentially a more balanced approach to the Middle east and an end to the war. Seems reasonable to me. 3000 murdered by our own government and the politicians still remain silent. Why do they remain silent? Remember the anthrax scare? That's why. Any politican of substance who diligently fought to uncover the truth of 911 and made progress, would surely be assassinated. They have let out a little bits of "conspiracy" coverage on the news in rigged interviews or entertainment news but these are just sound bites to appease the people and lull them into thinking they are making progress. In fact they probably are not but at least more and more question it. Certainly the people at the New York Times know of the turth but they won't or can't publish. The media is controlled as well. There is no real free press that gives us the truth anymore. Just sound bites and distractions, running the gamut from Anna Nicole Smith to the never ending OJ Simpson saga. Who cares about these hasbeens? I certainly don't. No, America is totally out of whack and under the influence of corporate America run amok for the almighty dollar and to please their shareholders. Our foreign policy has been hijacked by people whose main interest is to kill Arabs for Israel and make money off it (Dianne Feinstein and here husband and thousands more). There is a bit of hope in that Jimmy Carter came out and said as much as he did in his book about the Middle East, but he I wish he went further and called for an independent investigation of 911. But that will never happen. This is why I am so outraged, disgusted and write with anger. What I see in America today really, really saddens me. A nation that was so much loved after WWII has become a war machine for profit and Israel and now hated, scorned and mocked around the world. We are a lost nation and this is indisputable.

It’s bad enough that most Liberal Democrats I read about are starting to become ranting jew-haters, but here we have a specific case of someone who’s crazy enough to believe that the Neo-con Jews took over the government so they could fly airplanes into the World Trade Center and predict that it would somehow lead us to a situation several years LATER that would make us decide who we should support: PLOs or Israelis.

I used to think that the left was safe for Jewish people. Now it’s turning into a haven for rabid, racist Jew-haters. What’s the problem here, folks?

Point and Counterpoint

Today was a milestone day, so to speak. My Film History class today was a lecture on interpretation within the context of a film, or even TV shows. So to show how someone can interpret something we watched a very famous episode of “South Park” entitled “Chinpokomon,” an obvious spoof on Pokemon. And believe me, it’s not every day in which one hears a lecture that digs farther into “South Park” than Kevin Smith digs into “Star Wars.”

For those of you who don’t watch “South Park,” here’s a synopsis of the episode. The boys in the show start hopping on the train with the newest toy craze from Japan called “Chinpokomon.” They obsess over this new fad so much that they start literally turning Japanese over it. They learn Japanese and start getting into the Japanese culture and everything, blissfully unaware though that a Mr. Hirohito of the Japanese Chinpokomon company is brainwashing them into battling against the evil United States government and bombing Pearl Harbor.

As usual, a laughably stupid scenario. After the episode, the teacher, Mr. Kerner, gave us all his thesis and interpretation of this episode. One thing I’d forgotten was that Hirohito was Emperor of Japan during World War 2, something which explains the whole Pearl Harbor connection. His argument: this episode was a reversed simile to history. Whereas in the episode we have Japan influencing the United States, what really happened was that the United States influenced Japan. And with force too. At the end of World War 2, the U.S. forced Hirohito and his country to abandon their culture and westernize. Also, we can learn from this episode that consumerism can be a very dangerous thing because of the effects it has on children.

Alright, I’ll accept that as a theory. After all, it’s only a theory. Now here was my take on the episode. Hirohito was a war-man. He and his country wound up trying to take over China during the Chinese civil war. They allied with Nazi Germany in a mission for conquest. When they did that, of course, they started influencing parts of China that they had conquered with their own culture. Then, after he was forced to surrender, parts of Japanese culture obviously remained. Just look at pictures of Japan, Japanese movies through history, music and everything else. There’s something about it that Westernization certainly didn’t do. The image of the samurai is still a pretty strong one. Unless we invented that in our culture.

As for the opinion on consumerism, I guess that sort of goes along with a lot of the San Francisco State mentality. A lot of folks over there I already know believe that capitalism is evil and whatnot. Heck, I just walked through their bookstore today and it’s no surprise that there were books on Mao Zedong out on stands there…among other books that bashed Bush and promoted atheism. It all seems to go together. In my opinion though, capitalism as a whole is not evil, of course. If it was, most countries of the modern world wouldn’t be resorting to it just to keep their economy alive. Communist China, for instance. Not so communist anymore with that whole capitalism thing though.

At this point, Lauren would probably tell me that I’m getting to interpretive here, so I guess I’ll stop. But there’s one more unrelated thing that I wanted to bring up that was somewhat amusing. Near the end of the class, we started watching “The Wizard of Oz” and inevitably, the legend of the “hanging dwarf” came up. This legend has been debunked time and time again, of course. I even recall a time where I spent quite a lot of time convincing a total idiot that it was only a myth. Of course, when the time comes that you’re supposed to see the hanging dwarf (which was really a bird stretching it’s wings), there was an unusual amount of chatter behind me. I turned around and whispered loudly to them “Did you guys see the hanging dwarf?” It got some laughs, but after class was over, someone did ask if there was really a hanging dwarf. The teacher didn’t know, but some girl in the audience did say to us all that there was a suicide but not on camera.

All things considered, I believe Mr. Kerner and I are going to have an interesting time this semester.

Farewell to Thee

It’s 12:30 am, early morning on Thursday, but to me it‘s still Wednesday and I gotta post this now, otherwise I may never post it. Early this morning, my family received word that my grandfather, Thomas “Papa Tom” Deane, passed away in his sleep. If I’m correct, he was 79 years old. These past few years, he’d been suffering from cancer and taking morphine patches to ease the pain. It wasn’t until Christmas that we’d discovered the cancer had traveled to his lungs and it was just a matter of time before he went.

Papa Tom was a great man, in my mind. He was a rocket scientist, an antique dealer, a good husband to my grandmother, a good grandfather to us all. He’d been up and down this great big world and back again. He was the kind of grandfather who could set you on the right path just about any time.

As my tribute to him on this blog, I would like to post something here. The MP3 here is a recording of me and Lauren talking to the man only a few weeks ago, taken on her Braillenote. For family purposes, I think this snippet of the recording is perhaps the most pertinent to the occasion:

God rest his soul.

Democracy Time

Check out the video at the link below. Or just skip after it to get my 2 cents.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWt0XUocViE&eurl=

So in a nutshell, big business companies such as Comcast, AT&T and Verizon want to make website owners split their service connection so that either they pay the same they’re paying now for service and get a slower connection, or pay more for one that’s faster. Why this is necessary, I do not know.

In any case, if you don’t agree with this measure, go to the website and sign the petition here:

http://www.savetheinternet.com/

There you can sign a petition that they plan to send to Washington where it will put pressure against businesses who want to enact this measure. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

And also, my friend Robert has a Vlog site now I thought I might mention. It’s not much at the moment , but you can view it at the following link:
